About

Hi everyone,

My name is CH Tan, staying in JB, Malaysia.

This weblog is covering the ideas of stocks investing (US markets) and trading, trading and investing articles and many useful links.

My interests are  in stocks investing & trading (including stock options), stocks researching, programming, internet trending, blogging … etc. I have collected 8000+ US stocks end-of-day (EOD) data for personal researches.

Everyday I will be adding US markets activities for EOD. The daily markets activities will be posted by EST 11pm each day under normal conditions. I am doing this because I have the passion to follow the market pulses. These information will include “Daily Close Information”, “Top Gainers and Losers”, “Top High-Low Price Volatility”, “Most actives”, “Unusual Volume Surges”, “1-yr Uptrend Chart”, “1-yr Downtrend Chart” and many more …

“COUGARJUMP” – I like cougars hunting skill. They are skilled night hunters with excellent eyesight and superb hearing. Rather than simply chasing after their food, they prefer stalking their prey at close range, using the element of surprise. Personally, I use this stalking strategy to do short term trading (not investing!).

  1. Excellent data. If you don’t mind me asking - how do you obtain this raw data? I would like to be able to download this type of info and do backtesting on it.

    Thanks,
    Brian

  2. Hi Brian,
I download the end-of-day data from eoddata.com everyday after market close. The data is available free only after 6:00pm EST. I find it will be more complete after 6:30pm. You can try to download and free feel to test them.
    Thks

  4. Dear CH Tan,

Your data on the daily Most Actives is fascinating!

However, I found find the data more useful if you segregated the exchanges. In other words, the Top 20 for the NYSE, the NASDAQ, and the AMEX. That’s that data is reported, by exchange, normally.

Is there a way you can provide that data, possibly for a fee. I am especially interested in finding the Top 20 on the NYSE on a daily basis going back for the past 10 years.

    Any possbilities on that?

    Regards,

    TB.

  6. Dear Mr. Tan:

I’ve been looking for an update of your data base in reference to my comment of April 2 in which I suggested that normal protocol for the reporting of the 20 Most Actives Highest Volume issues is on a per exchange and segregated basis, i.e. 20 Most Active Highest Volume for the NYSE, then for the AMEX, then for the NASDAQ.

In your response you indicated: “Your suggestion is very appreciated. I will try to re-program my system this coming Saturday.”

Since I haven’t seen anything as yet, I’m wondering if this change is still a viable option for you and/or are you making any progress in that direction.

Honestly, I strongly believe that a modification of your data in the direction I’m suggesting would make your website far more useful. Or, at least, an addition of such segregated data plus what you already have in the composite data would be helpful.

    Thank you.

    Regards,

    TB.

  7. Hi TB,
Yes, I am still doing with your suggestion. On 4th of April my PC was striked by lightning in a thunderstorm. I am currently using my son’s PC. So it is still undergoing data and system recovery process. I do hope I can finish this on Sunday. Thank you.

  8. Dr. Mr. Tan:

I see that you have been able to segregate the three major U.S. Exchanges (NYSE, NASDAQ, and AMEX) into three, separate, statistical formats. Excellent! I believe your users will find that data more useable even though your inclusion of those three exchanges into one Most Actives list is also interesting to view as an overall point of reference.

Also, do you plan to retrofit the segregated exchanges via your historical database? I notice that you have statistics back to April 2007. I realize that such work could be time consuming, but it would be very helpful to see the results of the segregated exchange data over the time frame (a year) that you offer. It would give you a unique platform for such historical results since I don’t think those statistics can be found anywhere else without the coincident numbers crunching.

    Regards,

    TB.

  9. Hi TB,

Glad to know you can make use of my listings.

You are right - my blog/site was created last year April. I have data way back to 1984 for some counters. It will take some time to post the past 1 year segregated lists (about 200 posts).

    Rgds.
